On Friday, residents along the UAE's eastern coastline found themselves greeted by unusually pleasant weather as light to moderate rains fell across Fujairah and Khor Fakkan. This rainfall brought not only cooler temperatures but also misty mountain vistas, a refreshing shift from the typical summer heat.
Despite the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) forecasting mostly fair weather nationwide, localized rainfall developed in the vicinity of the Hajar Mountains, providing a much-needed respite from high temperatures.
The showers transformed several coastal areas, resulting in low-hanging clouds and a noticeable drop in temperature. The mountains were cloaked in mist, offering an autumnal vibe even as summer remains at its peak.
The NCM had initially anticipated clear skies across the UAE, only expecting low clouds in the eastern regions, with warmer inland conditions.
The NCM attributes this unexpected rainfall to the seasonal appearance of Al Marawih convective clouds over the Hajar Mountains. This phenomenon typically arises during summer months when humid air from the Sea of Oman travels inland.
As the moisture-laden air ascends over the mountain terrain, it cools and forms large cumulonimbus clouds, capable of yielding thunderstorms and localized rainfall nearby.
Meteorologists predict that the Al Marawih clouds may become increasingly active over the Hajar Mountain range and surrounding regions in the afternoon, with the potential for isolated thunderstorms in some locations.
The National Center of Meteorology reported that winds across the UAE are expected to remain light to moderate, freshening at times. Sea conditions in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman are projected to stay calm throughout the day.
