Second Minor Eruption Hits Taal Volcano in the Philippines

Second Minor Eruption Hits Taal Volcano in the Philippines

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that a second minor phreatomagmatic eruption occurred at the Main Crater of Taal Volcano on Tuesday evening.

According to PHIVOLCS, the eruption started at 8:09 p.m. and continued for approximately four minutes. The event was confirmed through seismic, infrasound, and thermal camera observations.

Ash and Steam Plumes Reached 2,800 Meters

PHIVOLCS said the eruption produced jets of ash and steam-rich plumes that rose about 2,800 meters above the Main Crater.

The agency stated, "The event produced jets of ash and steam-rich plumes that rose 2800 meters above the crater. These thermal camera footages were recorded by the Daang Kastila (VTDK) and Main Crater (VTMC) thermal camera observation stations on Taal Volcano Island."

The eruption was documented using thermal cameras installed at the Daang Kastila (VTDK) and Main Crater (VTMC) observation stations on Taal Volcano Island.

Earlier Eruption Took Place in the Afternoon

Earlier on Tuesday, PHIVOLCS also recorded a first minor phreatomagmatic eruption at 2:29 p.m. That event lasted for approximately three minutes.

The evening eruption marked the second recorded phreatomagmatic activity at Taal Volcano's Main Crater on the same day.
