Post by : Badri Ariffin

His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UOS), graced the Spring 2026 bachelor's graduation ceremony held at University City Hall this past Sunday.

Opening the event were the UAE national anthem and a recitation from the Holy Quran. Professor Dr Issam Al-Din Ibrahim Ajami, Chancellor of UOS, welcomed attendees and expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi for honoring the graduates with his presence.

In his address, Dr Ajami emphasized the significance of quality education, hands-on training, cultural diversity, and collaboration. He noted that the student body at UOS comprises individuals from 100 different nationalities, equipping them with invaluable skills for working in multicultural environments. He underscored the necessity of molding graduates who can effectively collaborate, exchange ideas, and pursue shared goals.

The Chancellor also referenced the university's impressive standing in global academic rankings. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, UOS emerged as one of the UAE's top institutions across various fields. Notably, Petroleum Engineering ranked within the world’s top 100, while Chemical Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering were among the world’s top 200. Additionally, UOS proudly received the 2026 Sports Excellence Shield, indicative of its achievements in both academia and athletics.

Dr Ajami remarked that the university’s rich cultural diversity exemplifies the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the founding ruler, who established the institution under the guiding principle of “Where Civilisations Meet.” He praised His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi for continuously nurturing this vision, positioning UOS as a model for cultural inclusion and academic distinction.

He congratulated the graduates and their families, commending the dedication of faculty and staff in guiding students throughout their academic endeavors. Graduates were encouraged to leverage their knowledge, skills, and values to make a positive impact in society and contribute to progress.

In a heartfelt address on behalf of his peers, Thani Juma Khamis Al Shehi from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences expressed appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi for prioritizing education in Sharjah’s developmental framework and for establishing UOS as a beacon of higher learning.

He also acknowledged the ongoing support from His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi in cultivating an environment conducive to excellence and innovation in education, while thanking parents for their unwavering support, and highlighting the university's commitment to inclusivity for students with disabilities.

During the ceremony, Ahmed Salem Abdullah, a graduate from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, recited an impactful poem emphasizing the pivotal role of education and knowledge in advancing societies and nations.

As the ceremony concluded, His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi distributed degrees to 273 graduates from various bachelor's programs, representing colleges such as Sharia and Islamic Studies, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, Law, Fine Arts and Design, Communication, Sciences, Computing and Informatics, and Public Policy.
