In an unexpected incident from Uttar Pradesh, a bride chose to leave her new husband a mere 20 minutes after they arrived at her in-laws’ residence, leading to a five-hour village council meeting that dissolved the marriage.
The wedding took place on November 25 at a marriage hall in Deoria, characterized by traditional rituals, with both families participating in a celebratory atmosphere. However, the following morning, during the customary welcome at the groom’s home, the bride unexpectedly exited her room and contacted her parents, asserting her refusal to stay with her husband.
Despite attempts by relatives from both families to change her mind, the bride stood her ground. Her family alluded to perceived unkindness from the groom’s family, though the bride declined to elaborate further.
Panchayat Reaches Conclusion in Hours
The surprising events prompted a local panchayat to assemble at noon on November 26. After five hours of discussion among villagers and family members, attempts at reconciliation proved unsuccessful.
Eventually, a written agreement was reached, allowing the couple to separate by mutual consent with the option to remarry in the future. All shared gifts and items were returned, and the bride departed with her family by evening.
Family Reactions
The groom’s family expressed their disappointment, mentioning that everything seemed normal leading up to the wedding. They acknowledged that the suddenness of the bride's decision caused some embarrassment among neighbors and relatives but chose not to involve law enforcement following the bride’s clear stance.
Arranged six months prior, this abrupt separation—a day after all wedding ceremonies—has stirred considerable discussion within the local community.
