Elon Musk’s Tesla is rallying its dedicated online audience to expedite the launch of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology in Europe. In a recent update on X, Tesla encouraged fans to reach out to the Dutch transit authority, Rijksdienst voor het Wegverkeer (RDW), in support of testing FSD on European roadways.
The electric vehicle leader has been striving for over a year to introduce its supervised FSD technology to Europe, with the Netherlands identified as the most suitable entry point. Tesla claims its internal assessments have reported over 1 million kilometers of safe driving across 17 European nations, despite some reports pointing out inconsistencies between Tesla’s findings and local traffic data.
Musk’s Ambitious Tesla Vision Relies on FSD Progress
Tesla has set bold goals linked to Elon Musk’s extensive compensation package. These objectives include:
Delivering 20 million vehicles
10 million active FSD subscriptions
Deploying 1 million robots
Operating 1 million Robotaxis commercially
Achieving $400 billion in adjusted EBITDA over four quarters
Securing FSD approval in Europe is crucial for meeting these ambitious targets.
Regulatory Challenges and Strategic Initiatives
Current EU regulations effectively make Tesla’s FSD illegal in its current state. As stated by the company, modifying the system to meet European standards could render the technology unsafe and impractical in numerous situations. Through obtaining a Dutch exemption, Tesla aims to accelerate its market entry and potentially widen approval across the EU, contingent on the European Commission’s decisions.
The social media outreach has already garnered substantial interest, with millions of views and a multitude of comments on X. However, the RDW urged the public to avoid inundating their channels, clarifying that such communications would not alter their timeline or decision-making.
Tesla hopes to gain approval from the Dutch authority by February 2026, setting the stage for larger-scale operations in Europe. While the campaign has drawn public fascination, the company still navigates a complex regulatory landscape where safety and compliance are critical.
