A fire broke out at Takinogawa No. 3 Elementary School in central Tokyo on Friday, prompting a large emergency response and the evacuation of nearly 300 students and staff members. Authorities confirmed that everyone inside the school was safely accounted for following the incident.
Fire Reported Near Top-Floor Music Room
According to the Tokyo Fire Department, the blaze started late Friday morning near a music room located on the fourth floor of the school building. Thick black smoke was seen rising from the upper floors as emergency crews rushed to the scene.
Students and Teachers Moved to Safety
School officials quickly initiated evacuation procedures after the fire was detected. Most students and teachers managed to leave the building safely and gathered at a nearby public park while emergency services worked to control the situation.
Firefighters Rescue Trapped Occupants
Firefighters rescued one teacher and several students who were unable to leave the building immediately. Officials said those rescued suffered only minor injuries and none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Massive Emergency Response Deployed
Dozens of fire engines and rescue units were sent to the school as firefighters battled the flames. Television footage showed smoke pouring from windows on the top floor while emergency personnel worked to prevent the fire from spreading further.
No One Left Behind in Building
Authorities confirmed that all students, teachers, and staff members were successfully evacuated or rescued. A thorough search of the building found no one remaining inside, easing fears of a larger tragedy.
