A tragic bus accident occurred Wednesday morning when a passenger bus flipped on the road linking the popular Red Sea resorts of Dahab and Nuweiba, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 individuals and injuries to 28 others, as confirmed by Egypt's Ministry of Health.
The crash took place near the Al-Saada region while heading towards Nuweiba. Emergency teams promptly arrived at the site, providing first aid and arranging for the evacuation of injured passengers to local hospitals.
Upon notification, Egypt's Ministry of Health activated its central operations room, deploying 20 ambulances to address the needs of the injured and facilitate their transport to medical facilities.
Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has urged medical personnel to deliver utmost care to those injured, ensuring availability of necessary medications and supplies. Medical teams are continually monitoring the situation.
Reports indicate that several Jordanian citizens were involved in the accident, with 10 being confirmed dead according to Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. The ministry is coordinating with Egyptian officials and plans to send representatives to Nuweiba to assist injured nationals and handle the aftermath.
The bus reportedly had both Jordanian and Egyptian passengers aboard, and casualty numbers are subject to change as further details arise from local authorities.
As of now, the specific reason behind the crash remains unclear, with authorities yet to determine if speeding, mechanical failure, poor road conditions, or other causes played a role in the incident.
The collision occurred on a vital route frequented by visitors to Egypt's Red Sea coast, where destination points like Dahab and Nuweiba are popular for their appealing beaches and diving opportunities.
This tragic event has reignited discussions surrounding road safety in Egypt. Recent reports indicated a worrying trend in road fatalities, with statistics showing a rise in traffic deaths in 2025 compared to the previous year, reflecting an urgent need for improved safety measures.
In a similar incident last month, another major road collision in the Ismailia region resulted in 18 fatalities and around 30 injuries, heightening concerns about safety on highways, particularly those servicing tourist areas.
