Recently, Abu Dhabi hosted the sixth session of the Joint Consular Committee between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of India, aimed at boosting bilateral ties and refining services for their citizens.
Heading the UAE delegation was Omar Obaid Alhesan Alshamsi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary for Consular, Passport, Visa, and Overseas Indian Affairs, led the Indian team. The conversations revolved around fostering cooperation in areas of common interest and exchanging best practices in consular services.
Alshamsi greeted the Indian representatives warmly and conveyed regards from H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasizing that this sixth meeting signifies both countries' commitment to improving their relationship. He underscored the rich historical, cultural, and strategic ties that contribute to this collaboration, reinforcing mutual interests and fulfilling citizen expectations.
Key discussion points included boosting consular cooperation, sharing experiences, and discovering new methods to improve the quality of services for citizens. Both nations recognized that collaborating on consular practices would lead to enhanced service delivery and efficient processing of consular matters.
During the meeting, the Indian delegation explored the UAE’s remarkable Smart Mission initiative—an innovative global model integrating advanced technologies and AI to revolutionize consular services. This initiative reflects the commitment of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs to modernizing operations, streamlining procedures, and bettering the customer experience for citizens worldwide.
The Smart Mission model exemplifies the UAE's innovative strategies in leveraging technology for faster and more transparent consular services. It combines digital systems and artificial intelligence to assure citizens access to high-quality services, be it for visas, passports, or other consular needs.
Moreover, both delegations discussed potential further collaborations on technology-enhanced solutions for consular services. By exchanging insights and examining new tools, the UAE and India aim to refine consular operations to be more effective and responsive to citizen needs.
This sixth joint session of the UAE-India Consular Committee not only underscored the robust relationship between the two nations but also showcased their dedication to modernizing consular operations through innovation and improved service quality. The meeting illustrates both countries’ ongoing efforts to solidify diplomatic ties while benefiting their citizens tangibly.
Through this partnership, the UAE and India are setting a strong example of how diplomacy, technology, and collaboration can unite to enhance governance and public services, granting citizens timely and superior consular support.
