UAE President Extends Solidarity to Sri Lanka Amid Flood Crisis

Post by : Maya Rahman

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan had a conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who expressed gratitude for the UAE's steadfast support for those impacted by the catastrophic floods in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan leader acknowledged the UAE's swift and compassionate response during this crisis.

During their discussion, Sheikh Mohamed conveyed heartfelt condolences to President Dissanayake and the Sri Lankan people for the tragic losses endured in the flooding. He expressed his sympathy for the victims’ families and wished for the nation’s resilience and recovery as it navigates the aftermath of this disaster.

The UAE’s prompt assistance symbolizes its enduring commitment to aiding nations in distress. The country emphasizes delivering immediate and impactful support to alleviate suffering and assist communities in rebuilding following natural catastrophes. This principle has consistently steered the UAE's initiatives globally.

Following the floods’ devastation in Sri Lanka, the UAE swiftly activated emergency relief efforts via its national humanitarian agencies. This initiative was meticulously coordinated by the Joint Operations Command, alongside the UAE Agency for International Aid and the Emirates Red Crescent, ensuring that aid arrived promptly to affected regions.

Search and rescue operations were executed in severely impacted areas by Abu Dhabi Civil Defence teams. These responders provided crucial assistance to individuals trapped by floodwaters and supported local authorities in urgent rescue efforts.

Besides rescue tasks, the UAE dispatched vital relief supplies, including food and emergency shelter materials, to aid families displaced by the floods. These provisions aimed to fulfill immediate needs and offer temporary support to those who suffered the loss of their homes.

The UAE’s ongoing support underscores its dedication to humanitarian principles and international partnership. By backing Sri Lanka during this challenging period, the UAE reaffirms its willingness to assist nations in need and promote stability and recovery during tough times.
