In a move highlighting their global tech aspirations, South Korea has forged a partnership with the United Arab Emirates to launch a monumental artificial intelligence data campus within the Gulf region. This collaboration was officially announced during President Lee Jae Myung's visit to the UAE for an important summit.
Dubbed Stargate UAE, this development aims to establish one of the largest AI data center facilities globally, outside the jurisdiction of the United States. This is a landmark moment for international tech partnerships, especially in light of previous limitations imposed by the U.S. on advanced tech transfers to the UAE because of its significant relationship with China.
The initial phase will include a substantial 1-gigawatt facility developed by the UAE’s state-owned G42. This effort will see collaboration with renowned tech giants like OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco Systems, and Japan's SoftBank Group. Analysts predict that this initiative could elevate the UAE to a key role in AI research and data management, attracting global investments and talent.
Industry experts believe this partnership signifies a growing tendency among nations to bolster their technological autonomy while promoting global cooperation in AI. The Stargate project is poised to enhance the UAE’s digital framework, providing the capability to support extensive AI applications ranging from smart cities to sophisticated computational studies.
With construction anticipated to commence shortly, the Stargate UAE campus has the potential to transform the landscape of AI data processing in the Middle East, serving as a bridge for technological expertise among Asia, the Gulf, and the worldwide tech sphere.
