China’s Unitree Robotics has unveiled the GD01, a massive transformable manned mecha robot that is rapidly going viral online for looking like something straight out of a science fiction movie. The futuristic machine has attracted global attention after footage showed Unitree CEO Wang Xingxing personally piloting the robot as it moved forward and smashed through walls using its powerful mechanical arms.
According to reports, the GD01 stands around 2.7 metres tall and is being promoted as a production-ready manned mecha system. The robot is reportedly designed to carry a human operator inside while functioning as a transformable civilian-use machine. Its estimated starting price is said to be around 650,000 US dollars, making it one of the most advanced and expensive robotics projects showcased publicly in recent years.
The viral demonstration video has sparked huge discussions across social media platforms, with many users comparing the GD01 to popular fictional robots from franchises such as “Transformers” and “Gundam.” The machine’s ability to move, transform, and interact physically with obstacles has impressed viewers and fueled conversations about the future of robotics and human-machine technology.
Reports suggest the mecha weighs approximately 500 kilograms when operated with a person inside. The mechanical structure includes advanced movement systems and robotic arms capable of performing heavy physical actions. Experts believe such technology could eventually find applications in industrial work, rescue operations, construction, hazardous environments, and advanced transportation systems.
China has been investing heavily in robotics, artificial intelligence, and automation technologies in recent years, with companies like Unitree Robotics gaining international attention for their rapid developments in humanoid robots and intelligent machines. The GD01 is now being viewed by many technology enthusiasts as another major step toward futuristic human-controlled robotic systems.
While some experts have praised the engineering achievement, others have raised questions about practical real-world applications, safety regulations, and production scalability. However, the demonstration has undeniably captured global public interest and highlighted the growing competition in advanced robotics innovation.
The unveiling of the GD01 reflects how rapidly robotics technology is evolving, especially in Asia, where companies continue pushing the boundaries of automation, AI integration, and futuristic machine design.
