Indonesia’s Mount Dukono Erupts Violently Massive Ash Cloud, Hikers Trapped Amid Chaos

Post by : Shakul

A powerful volcanic eruption shook Indonesia after Mount Dukono erupted violently, sending a massive ash cloud nearly 10 kilometers into the sky above Halmahera Island.

Authorities reported that the sudden eruption triggered panic in nearby communities as thick volcanic ash rapidly spread across the surrounding region. Emergency alerts were issued immediately while residents and tourists were advised to stay away from the restricted danger zone around the volcano.

According to officials, several hikers became trapped near the volcano during the eruption, prompting urgent rescue operations under dangerous conditions. Rescue teams were deployed overnight to evacuate survivors while navigating heavy ashfall, poor visibility, and unstable terrain.

Authorities also confirmed casualties and injuries following the sudden blast, though exact numbers are still being verified as emergency response efforts continue. Medical teams and disaster management agencies remain on high alert as search and rescue missions expand around affected areas.

Videos shared on social media showed enormous columns of dark ash rising into the atmosphere while ash-covered roads, buildings, and vehicles created scenes of chaos across nearby settlements.

Mount Dukono is considered one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes and has remained under heightened monitoring due to increasing volcanic activity in recent months. Experts warn that further eruptions remain possible, with authorities maintaining strict restrictions around the volcano.

Indonesia sits along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” making the country highly vulnerable to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions due to intense tectonic activity beneath the region.
