Kriti Sanon Speaks On Pay Gap In Bollywood

Kriti Sanon Speaks On Pay Gap In Bollywood

Post by : Shakul

Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon has spoken openly about gender pay disparity and unequal treatment faced by female actors in the Indian film industry. In a recent interview, the actress discussed how women in Bollywood often face financial negotiations that male actors usually do not experience. Her comments have once again started conversations around equal pay, workplace respect, and gender bias within the entertainment industry.

Kriti Sanon stated that producers frequently negotiate the fees of female lead actors when trying to reduce film budgets, while a large portion of the budget is often allocated to male stars. According to the actress, there has been a noticeable struggle around money and equal compensation for women in films. She explained that even though the industry has changed over the years, many deep-rooted biases still continue to exist in different forms.

The actress also spoke about how patriarchy remains deeply embedded in Bollywood culture. Kriti Sanon explained that gender inequality sometimes appears in subtle ways on film sets. She mentioned that production teams often prioritize making sure male actors do not have to wait, while female actors are expected to adjust according to schedules. According to her, these behaviors may appear small, but they reflect larger issues related to respect and equality within the workplace.

Sharing experiences from the early years of her career, Kriti Sanon said that it was difficult for her to openly raise concerns or demand equal treatment. She recalled situations where male co-stars who were not even senior actors received better facilities and treatment. The actress clarified that such moments were never about luxury or comfort, but rather about equal respect and professional recognition. She added that although many producers and directors today are progressive, unconscious biases still remain within the industry.

Kriti Sanon also reflected on the highs and lows of her acting career. She described the success of her film “Mimi” as one of the biggest turning points in her professional journey. The actress said the film helped break many stereotypes people had about her acting abilities. Released during the COVID-19 pandemic, the film eventually streamed online instead of having a theatrical release and received widespread appreciation from audiences and critics.

The actress further shared that winning the National Award for Best Actress for “Mimi” became one of the proudest achievements of her career. However, before the success of the film, she experienced periods of frustration and disappointment. Kriti Sanon revealed that there were several roles she almost secured but eventually lost to star kids or actors with stronger industry connections. She admitted that such situations were emotionally difficult because she believed she was capable of taking on more challenging roles.

Kriti Sanon’s comments have added to the larger discussion around equality and fairness in Bollywood. Conversations about pay disparity, nepotism, and workplace treatment have become increasingly common in the film industry over the past few years. Many actors and filmmakers continue to call for a more balanced and respectful work environment where talent and contribution are valued equally regardless of gender.
