To Lam Receives Grand Welcome in Sri Lanka

To Lam Receives Grand Welcome in Sri Lanka

Post by : Shakul

Vietnam’s General Secretary and President To Lam received a grand official welcome in Sri Lanka on the morning of May 8, 2026, as part of his state visit to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The welcoming ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Colombo and was hosted by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The event marked an important moment in the growing diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

The ceremony was held with full state honors and reflected the strong friendship between the two nations. At exactly 8:30 a.m., a mounted cavalry escort accompanied the vehicle carrying General Secretary and President To Lam into the Presidential Palace grounds. Traditional Sri Lankan dancers and performers welcomed the Vietnamese delegation with cultural performances that showcased the country’s heritage and hospitality.

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake personally greeted General Secretary and President To Lam upon arrival and escorted him to the ceremonial podium. The military band then played the national anthems of Vietnam and Sri Lanka in front of senior officials and members of both delegations. The atmosphere during the ceremony reflected mutual respect and the importance both countries place on their diplomatic ties.

Following the national anthem ceremony, a 21-gun salute was fired in honor of the Vietnamese leader. General Secretary and President To Lam then reviewed the Sri Lankan honor guard after receiving a formal report from the commander of the ceremonial forces. Both leaders later introduced members of their official delegations who were attending the state event.

After the welcoming ceremony concluded, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and General Secretary and President To Lam led high-level talks between the two countries. Officials from both sides discussed bilateral cooperation, political relations, economic partnerships, trade development, and future opportunities to strengthen collaboration in multiple sectors. The talks were considered an important part of efforts to expand cooperation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

Vietnam and Sri Lanka officially established diplomatic relations on July 21, 1970. Since then, the two countries have maintained friendly relations and steadily expanded cooperation across political, economic, cultural, and educational fields. Over the years, both nations have continued to support each other in regional and international forums while building stronger people-to-people connections.

Officials stated that the historical friendship between Vietnam and Sri Lanka has created a strong foundation for a new phase of bilateral development. Both countries are now seeking to deepen cooperation further and create new opportunities for trade, investment, tourism, and regional partnership. The state visit is expected to strengthen political trust and create momentum for long-term cooperation between the two Asian nations.

The Vietnamese government views this visit as a significant political milestone that could open a broader and more effective chapter in Vietnam-Sri Lanka relations. Analysts believe the visit demonstrates Vietnam’s strong commitment to enhancing diplomatic engagement with South Asian countries while promoting mutual development and regional stability through cooperation and partnership.

The state visit of General Secretary and President To Lam also highlights the shared determination of Vietnam and Sri Lanka to elevate their traditional friendship into a more comprehensive partnership focused on economic growth, cultural exchange, and common prosperity. Officials from both countries expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen bilateral ties and contribute positively to peace, stability, and development in the region.
