Tensions in the Middle East have sharply escalated as Iran launched a new wave of ballistic missiles and drones targeting several Gulf states, including areas in Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Bahrain, following intense US and Israeli strikes on Iranian territory earlier this week. The retaliatory strikes mark one of the most widespread expansions of the regional conflict in recent years.
According to Gulf defence authorities, Iranian forces fired scores of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles toward Gulf cities and military assets. Most of the projectiles were intercepted by air defences, but debris caused collateral damage and casualties in some areas, especially in the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
In Abu Dhabi, at least one Pakistani civilian was killed by falling missile debris, and several others were wounded, officials confirmed as debris hit portions of the capital despite interceptions.
In the UAE and Kuwait, authorities reported intercepting large numbers of ballistic missiles and drones — with many falling within territorial airspace, leading to material damage and injuries among civilians of diverse nationalities.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated the strikes were part of a retaliatory offensive after a US–Israeli military campaign that included major strikes on Iranian leadership and strategic installations. Several Gulf countries that host US military assets were explicitly cited as targets in Tehran’s announcement.
The attacks have disrupted air travel, forced airport closures, and raised fears of a broader regional conflagration as global leaders call for de‑escalation amid mounting civilian risk.
