Authorities in Chon Buri have arrested a Russian man and a Thai woman suspected of involvement in a foreign call-centre fraud operation targeting victims online. The suspects are believed to have played key roles in a criminal network that deceived people into transferring money to mule accounts, before withdrawing the funds at tourist spots across the province.
The Russian suspect, Sergeikha, aged 35, was apprehended at a condominium in Tambon Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district, while the Thai suspect, Sasiwimol, 20, was arrested at a traditional massage shop in Tambon Na Jomthien, Sattahip district. Both arrests were carried out under warrants issued by the Chon Buri provincial court.
Police investigators recovered multiple items used in the alleged fraud, including nine ATM cards, three mobile phones, and a notebook computer. Authorities allege that the suspects collectively handled over one million baht obtained from victims across Thailand. The fraudulent scheme reportedly involved posting false information online, luring victims into transferring money, and coordinating withdrawals in high-traffic tourist areas to avoid detection.
Following their arrests, the suspects were taken to Nong Kham police station for legal proceedings. Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation to identify the full network behind the foreign call-centre operation and to track down other individuals who may be involved. Police have warned the public to remain vigilant against similar scams, particularly those involving unsolicited calls, online messages, or requests for financial transfers to unknown accounts.
Authorities have also highlighted that such scams often target tourists and locals alike, exploiting trust and creating financial losses. Investigators are coordinating with local banks and financial institutions to trace transactions linked to the suspects and ensure that mule accounts are identified and deactivated to prevent further fraud.
This arrest is part of a broader effort by Thai authorities to crack down on organized foreign call-centre operations that operate in the region, which have become increasingly sophisticated and transnational in nature.
