Odisha Family Carries Woman’s Body To Police Station Over Delayed Arrests

Post by : Shakul

A tense protest erupted in Odisha’s Balasore district after the family of Kamala Sethi carried her body to the Khaira police station, demanding immediate action against the accused in her death case. The shocking incident from Haripur village has triggered public anger and renewed concerns over delayed justice and rural policing in the state.

According to reports, the violence began on May 10 following a dispute between neighbours over construction debris that allegedly fell into a nearby yard. The argument quickly escalated into a violent clash, during which Kamala Sethi was reportedly attacked with spades and crowbars. Her sister-in-law, Shakuntala, also suffered serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.

Police confirmed that one accused, identified as Bharati Jena, has been arrested in connection with the case. However, two other suspects, Bharat Jena and Manas Jena, are reportedly absconding, leading to frustration and anger among the victim’s family members and villagers.

In protest against the delay in arrests, the family carried Kamala’s body from Haripur village to the Khaira police station, demanding swift justice and stronger police action. The emotional protest drew attention from local residents and authorities, with visuals from the scene spreading rapidly on social media platforms.

Following discussions with police officials and local administration, authorities reportedly assured the family that efforts were underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspects. After receiving these assurances, the family agreed to perform the last rites of Kamala Sethi.

The incident has sparked widespread debate over law enforcement response in rural areas and the handling of violent land and boundary disputes. Many local residents have demanded stricter policing measures and faster legal action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
