Pakistan’s position on rising tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement has attracted attention following reports that Islamabad could consider military action under the newly signed Mecca Joint Defence Agreement. However, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has clarified that no discussion has taken place regarding a military response under the agreement. The clarification comes as regional tensions continue to draw international attention.

Defence Minister Earlier Mentioned Possible Activation

Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had previously indicated that the agreement could become operational if the Yemen conflict were to spill over into Saudi territory. His remarks had raised questions about whether Pakistan could become directly involved if the security situation around Saudi Arabia deteriorates. The latest clarification indicates that Pakistan military involvement has not been decided.

Regional Security Situation Remains Uncertain

The renewed tensions involving Saudi Arabia, Houthis and Yemen have increased concerns over wider Middle East security. Any future action by Pakistan would depend on official decisions, developments on the ground and the interpretation of the defence agreement. For now, Islamabad has made clear that no military response under the pact has been discussed.
