A Turkish Airlines Airbus A330 triggered panic at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu after smoke and flames were seen near the aircraft’s landing gear shortly after landing. The incident happened after the flight safely touched down, prompting airport emergency teams to rush to the runway as passengers prepared for evacuation.
According to initial reports, the fire broke out near the aircraft’s right rear tyre and landing gear area. Emergency crews quickly responded and managed to control the flames before the situation became more serious. Officials confirmed that all 277 passengers and 11 crew members on board were evacuated safely, and no major injuries were reported during the operation. The airport temporarily suspended flight operations, leading to delays and diversions for several incoming and outgoing flights.
Authorities said early technical inspections suggest the smoke may have been linked to a malfunction in a hydraulic pipe connected to the landing gear system. Aviation officials are continuing detailed investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident. Videos and images from the airport showing smoke around the aircraft quickly spread across social media, drawing international attention to the emergency situation in Kathmandu.
