Vietnam Prime Minister Le Minh Hung received Nagasaki Kotaro, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, during an official meeting at the Government headquarters in Hanoi. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in areas including trade, agriculture, green energy, investment and human resource development. The visit highlighted the growing importance of regional partnerships within the broader Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction over the steady progress of bilateral relations between Vietnam and Japan. Leaders noted that political trust and economic cooperation between the two nations continue to expand strongly across several sectors. Japan remains one of Vietnam’s most important economic partners, ranking among the leading countries in investment, trade, tourism, labor cooperation and official development assistance. Officials also referred to the recent successful visit of Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae to Vietnam, which opened additional opportunities for future cooperation.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung emphasized that Vietnam consistently considers Japan a reliable and long-term strategic partner. He stated that cooperation between local governments and people-to-people exchanges play a vital role in strengthening bilateral relations. The Prime Minister welcomed Yamanashi Prefecture’s ongoing partnerships with Vietnamese provinces such as Quang Tri, Lao Cai and Tay Ninh, while encouraging broader cooperation in the future.
Agriculture emerged as one of the major topics during the talks. The Prime Minister highly appreciated Japan’s support for Vietnam’s large-scale project to develop one million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice production. He also called for stronger agricultural cooperation through technology transfer, scientific exchange and workforce training. Vietnamese leaders expressed hope that Japanese authorities would soon complete procedures to allow wider access for Japanese grapes and Vietnamese pomelos into each other’s markets, helping expand agricultural trade between the two countries.
Discussions also focused heavily on green energy and hydrogen development. Officials from Yamanashi Prefecture are already working with Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and several Vietnamese businesses to strengthen cooperation in renewable energy projects. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung encouraged Japanese businesses to expand investments in Vietnam, especially in areas related to clean energy, advanced technology, agriculture and technical services.
Human resource development and labor cooperation were also key areas of discussion. The Prime Minister suggested that both countries strengthen cooperation in training highly skilled workers for sectors such as science, technology, agriculture and industrial services. He thanked the Yamanashi administration for supporting the Vietnamese community living and working in the prefecture and requested continued assistance regarding labor regulations, insurance and social welfare policies. Officials noted that around 5,000 Vietnamese people currently live in Yamanashi Prefecture, contributing significantly to cultural and economic exchanges.
Governor Nagasaki Kotaro stated that Yamanashi Prefecture values its growing relationship with Vietnam and wishes to expand cooperation further. He highlighted Yamanashi’s strong fruit industry, particularly grape and peach production, and expressed hope that Japanese grapes from the prefecture would soon enter the Vietnamese market. The Governor also affirmed the prefecture’s commitment to renewable energy cooperation and announced support measures to help Vietnamese residents in Yamanashi feel secure and welcomed. Both sides agreed that stronger local cooperation would continue playing an important role in deepening Vietnam-Japan relations in the coming years.
