Vietnam and Cambodia reaffirmed their longstanding partnership as Prime Minister Le Minh Hung officially welcomed Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in Hanoi on June 8. The visit marks Hun Manet’s second official trip to Vietnam as Prime Minister and coincides with his participation in the Third ASEAN Future Forum.
The welcoming ceremony was held at Vietnam’s Government Headquarters in a warm and ceremonial atmosphere. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung greeted the Cambodian leader and his delegation before both sides observed national anthems and reviewed the Honor Guard of the Vietnam People’s Army. The event highlighted the close diplomatic ties shared by the neighboring countries.
Following the ceremony, the two Prime Ministers led high-level talks focused on evaluating bilateral cooperation and identifying new opportunities for future collaboration. The leaders also witnessed the signing of several cooperation documents aimed at strengthening political, economic and people-to-people relations.
Relations between Vietnam and Cambodia have continued to expand across multiple sectors in recent years. Both governments have actively implemented agreements reached during high-level meetings and maintained frequent exchanges between party leaders, government officials and security institutions. Defence and security cooperation remains a key pillar of the bilateral relationship.
Economic cooperation continues to be one of the strongest areas of engagement. Bilateral trade exceeded expectations in 2025 and maintained strong momentum during the first months of 2026. Vietnam remains Cambodia’s largest trading partner within ASEAN, while both nations are working toward achieving a bilateral trade target of 20 billion US dollars in the coming years.
Investment and tourism have also contributed significantly to strengthening ties. Vietnamese companies currently operate hundreds of projects across Cambodia, while tourist exchanges between the two countries continue to grow steadily. Cooperation in education, transportation, healthcare, culture and telecommunications has also seen notable progress.
The visit is expected to inject fresh momentum into Vietnam-Cambodia relations ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2027. Prime Minister Hun Manet’s participation in the ASEAN Future Forum further reflects the commitment of both nations to regional cooperation, stability and shared prosperity across Southeast Asia.
