Vietnam and Slovakia have officially upgraded their bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership, marking a significant milestone in their long-standing diplomatic ties. The agreement was reached during the official visit of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to Vietnam.
The visit, hosted by Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, took place from April 12 to April 14, 2026. Both leaders emphasized that the partnership builds on more than 75 years of diplomatic relations based on trust, mutual respect, and shared interests.
The newly established Strategic Partnership aims to elevate cooperation across multiple sectors, including political dialogue, economic collaboration, and international coordination. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to international law, multilateralism, and maintaining global peace and stability.
Economic, trade, and investment cooperation have been identified as key pillars of the partnership. Both sides agreed to enhance collaboration in industries such as automotive, energy, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and green innovation, while promoting fair and open trade environments.
In addition to economic ties, both nations pledged to strengthen defense and security cooperation, including efforts in cybersecurity, peacekeeping, and combating transnational crime. They also expressed support for expanding collaboration in education, science, and technology.
Cultural exchange, tourism, labor cooperation, and agricultural development are also expected to see growth under the new framework. Both countries aim to increase people-to-people connections and explore new opportunities for mutual development.
The agreement aligns with broader international cooperation frameworks, including Vietnam’s engagement with the European Union, and is expected to contribute to regional and global stability, economic growth, and sustainable development.
