Xpeng forges alliance with Alibaba’s Amap to roll out robotaxi trials

Xpeng forges alliance with Alibaba’s Amap to roll out robotaxi trials

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng said Wednesday it has entered a strategic collaboration with Alibaba’s digital mapping platform, Amap to introduce a commercial fleet of autonomous robotaxis.

The plan calls for the launch of three of its self-developed robotaxi models, with operational trials expected to start in 2026. Each vehicle will be tightly integrated with Amap’s mapping and routing systems to support seamless ride-hailing services.

Amap, which already works with autonomous operators such as WeRide and Pony.ai, will act as the mapping and traffic-data backbone for Xpeng’s service, enhancing navigation accuracy and operational oversight.

Xpeng also outlined intentions to develop a global robotaxi network alongside Amap. While specific markets and timelines were not disclosed, the collaboration signals a clear push toward international expansion.

The move reflects broader momentum in China’s autonomous vehicle industry, where several EV makers are accelerating driverless deployments. By combining Xpeng’s vehicle platforms with Amap’s mapping expertise, the partners aim to offer a scalable robotaxi solution for urban mobility.
