The 1 Billion Followers Summit has opened submissions for what is being called the world’s largest film award, carrying a prize of $1 million.
Organised in partnership with Google, the award invites filmmakers to submit creative films that highlight fresh ideas and strong storytelling. Submissions are open until November 20, 2025. After the deadline, 10 films will be shortlisted for a public vote, and the top five entries will be premiered at the summit before a final winner is announced.
Films must explore one of two themes:
“Rewrite Tomorrow” – presenting an inspiring view of the future.
“The Secret Life of …” – uncovering hidden stories behind everyday things.
Speaking about the launch, Saeed Al Eter, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Strategic Projects and Chairman of the UAE Government Media Office, said this award marks a turning point for the film industry. He added that storytelling today is no longer limited to big studios or large budgets, as anyone with talent and imagination can create powerful films.
Anthony Nakache, Google’s Managing Director in the Middle East & North Africa, said the award aims to empower storytellers everywhere. “We want every aspiring creator, no matter their resources, to have the opportunity to bring ideas to life,” he said.
The fourth edition of the 1 Billion Followers Summit will take place in January 2026 and is expected to be one of the largest gatherings of content creators worldwide. The event will feature more than 400 speakers, a collective following of over 3 billion, and will be attended by more than 30,000 visitors from over 140 countries, including 15,000 content creators.
The 1 Billion Followers Summit has quickly become a global platform for content creators, investors, and media leaders, and this new $1 million award is set to make it a highlight of the creative world in 2026.
