In a gripping Super Four match of the Asia Cup 2025, Bangladesh pulled off an exciting win over Sri Lanka, ending the Lankan team’s 8-match winning streak. This victory also marks Bangladesh’s first win against Sri Lanka in four games in the UAE, and their third win in the last four T20Is against them. The Bangla Tigers, led by brilliant performances from Saif Hassan and Litton Das, delivered a chase that cricket fans will remember for a long time.
Bangladesh batted first, knowing they had to be careful against Sri Lanka’s bowlers, especially Mustafizur Rahman. The pitch looked good for batting, but Mustafizur and Taskin Ahmed bowled crucial overs in the 19th and 20th that kept the Lankan team within reach. Taskin’s final over, in particular, was a game-changer.
Saif Hassan, who was later named Player of the Match, praised Litton Das for guiding him throughout the chase. “Litton helped me read the bowlers, anticipate deliveries, and maintain my shape. Batting with him was easy, and it made a big difference,” said Saif. Towhid Hridoy and Shamim Hossain also played key roles, supporting Saif and Litton in completing the chase.
For Sri Lanka, Charith Asalanka admitted that while the team kept their nerves till the end, they fell short by 10-15 runs. He highlighted Dasun Shanaka’s performance, who batted well and played a strong inning but could not secure the win. The team struggled with the fifth bowler’s performance and did not fully utilize spinners in the match, which ultimately cost them. Hasaranga was the pick among bowlers, but lacked enough support.
Bangladesh’s chase started aggressively in the powerplay with Saif and Litton counter-attacking the early wickets. They targeted key areas and maintained a solid pace throughout. Towhid Hridoy hit precise shots, especially targeting extra cover, while Shamim Hossain made vital contributions at crucial moments.
The match reached a nail-biting finish. Jaker Ali was bowled out in the last over, and Mahedi Hasan nearly got out but survived after Sri Lanka’s review went against them. Shamim Hossain almost got run out, but Bangladesh held their nerves to secure the win. Bangladesh’s successful chase of 169 runs adds to their record as their second victory in T20Is while chasing a 160-plus target, the previous win also being against Sri Lanka in Sylhet in March 2024.
With this win, Bangladesh enters the Super Four stage with confidence, while fans eagerly await the next high-profile match — the India vs Pakistan clash. The match was not just a win but a display of determination, strategy, and teamwork, making it a memorable chapter in the Asia Cup 2025.
This victory shows Bangladesh’s growing strength in T20 cricket and sets the stage for thrilling matches ahead in the tournament. Fans of the sport can expect an intense battle in the coming games as the Super Four stage continues in the UAE.
