Madrid: Real Madrid continued their flawless start to the 2025-26 LaLiga season with a commanding 4-1 victory over Levante at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday. Vinicius Jr led the first-half demolition while Kylian Mbappe’s second-half brace sealed a comfortable and comprehensive win for the Spanish champions.
With this victory, Real Madrid extend their perfect record in the league, sitting at the top of the LaLiga table with 18 points from six matches. They now lead reigning champions Barcelona by five points, although Barcelona have a game in hand ahead of their Thursday clash against Real Oviedo. Levante, on the other hand, remain in 16th place with just four points.
Vinicius Jr Shines as Captain
The highlight of the match was Vinicius Jr, who had been under scrutiny after a mixed start under new manager Xabi Alonso. Prior to this match, Vinicius had not completed a full 90 minutes in the season and started on the bench for two games. Against Levante, he was given the captain’s armband and delivered a sensational performance.
In the 28th minute, Vinicius opened the scoring with a moment of brilliance, striking from the right side of the box with the outside of his right foot, sending the ball just inside the far post. Eleven minutes later, he turned provider, delivering a precise pass to Franco Mastantuono in a fast counter-attack. Mastantuono finished the move with a powerful strike into the top corner, doubling Real Madrid’s lead before halftime.
Although Levante’s Australian goalkeeper Mathew Ryan made several key saves to deny attempts from Vinicius, Federico Valverde, and Mbappe, Real Madrid’s dominance was clear.
Mbappe Completes the Job
Levante briefly threatened a comeback when Ivan Romero’s shot deflected off Dean Huijsen, allowing Etta Eyong to score in the 54th minute. However, Mbappe quickly restored Real Madrid’s two-goal cushion. In the 63rd minute, he scored from the penalty spot after Levante captain Unai Elgezabal fouled him in the box, using a cheeky chip to beat the goalkeeper. Three minutes later, Mbappe completed his brace, collecting Arda Guler’s long pass, rounding the goalkeeper, and slotting into an empty net.
Coach Alonso Praises Team Performance
After the match, Xabi Alonso praised Vinicius Jr for his leadership and impact. “Vinicius has played a decisive and very important role tonight. We are in a phase of growth and construction. There is still a long way to go this season, but the players are connected and energised, which is very important. We are building a solid foundation to be competitive in the Champions League, LaLiga, and Copa del Rey,” Alonso said.
Real Madrid will face a stern test away at city rivals Atletico Madrid on Saturday, while Levante travel to Getafe. The win over Levante demonstrates Madrid’s strong start and their intent to remain title contenders in LaLiga. Vinicius Jr’s resurgence and Mbappe’s clinical finishing give Real Madrid a potent attacking duo as they aim to dominate Spanish football this season.
