10th Zayed Charity Run Announced for December in Egypt

10th Zayed Charity Run Announced for December in Egypt

Post by : Maya Rahman

The Ministry of Youth and Sports in Egypt has unveiled plans for the 10th Zayed Charity Run, taking place on December 26 in Sheikh Zayed City, Giza. This year's event, organized in collaboration with the Higher Organising Committee, will channel its proceeds to the Egyptian Food Bank.

At a recent press conference, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, emphasized that the race symbolizes the humanitarian ties between Egypt and the UAE. He highlighted that the event fosters strong bilateral relationships and illustrates how sports can positively influence society. Preparations are underway to accommodate a large number of participants, ensuring the occasion honors the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Mohsen Sarhan Ali, CEO of the Egyptian Food Bank, remarked that their participation signifies a commitment to community welfare. In addition to food relief, the organization promotes initiatives that support vulnerable families and enhance volunteer engagement.

The event will include a 10km competition, a 5km race designated for amateurs and People of Determination, as well as a 5km wheelchair race for professional entrants. The race route will extend from the Zayed 2000 entrance to ZED Park.

The Zayed Charity Run has seen commendable growth over the years. Previous editions attracted significant crowds: 10,000 runners in Cairo in 2015 and 2016, 10,000 in Luxor in 2017, 15,000 in Ismailia in 2018, 15,000 in Suez in 2019, 20,000 in Alexandria in 2022, 25,000 in the New Administrative Capital in 2023, and an anticipated 50,000 participants in 2024. This trend illustrates the increasing public enthusiasm for merging athletics with charitable causes.
