Moderate Quake Shakes Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province

Moderate Quake Shakes Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province

Post by : Maya Rahman

Early Wednesday morning, residents of Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province experienced a brief but noticeable tremor as a moderate earthquake jolted the area. Many took to social media to share their reactions to the light vibrations they felt. Despite the unexpected wake-up call, authorities assured the community that all was under control.

The earthquake registered a magnitude of 4.3 and occurred at approximately 2:11 am local time. Officials noted that the quake originated deep underground, about 50 kilometers down. This significant depth meant the shaking was felt yet did not result in major damage.

Saudi monitoring bodies, including the Saudi Geological Survey, have reported no injuries or damage to infrastructure, such as homes or roads. While emergency teams were primed for action, no response was necessary as life in the province proceeded uninterrupted.

Experts highlighted that minor earthquakes are not unusual in Saudi Arabia, attributed to the natural movements of the Arabian Plate. These shifts routinely relieve subterranean pressure, typically leading to minor seismic events rather than catastrophic quakes.

Officials provided assurances that neighboring countries were not impacted. UAE meteorological and seismic authorities confirmed that the tremor did not extend to their region, posing no risk to the coastal Gulf areas.

This event marks the fourth notable tremor recorded in or around Saudi Arabia this year. Geologists assert that such occurrences are commonplace and contribute to the prevention of larger seismic incidents. Authorities remain vigilant in monitoring seismic activities to safeguard the public.
