The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has entered into a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tokyo National Museum to bolster cultural collaboration and facilitate knowledge transfer between Abu Dhabi and Japan.
This significant agreement was signed at DCT Abu Dhabi's headquarters with the presence of Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, the Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi. The MoU was formalized by Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of DCT Abu Dhabi, alongside Makoto Fujiwara, Executive Director of the Tokyo National Museum.
This partnership lays out a comprehensive framework for collaboration in areas such as museum research, education, and professional training. It seeks to foster cross-cultural exchange, refine curatorial methodologies, and create new avenues for joint exhibitions and public programmes that will deepen the understanding of both Emirati and Japanese cultures.
During the signing event, Al Mubarak remarked that this agreement showcases Abu Dhabi's dedication to establishing impactful international cultural relationships. He emphasized that the collaboration with the Tokyo National Museum will facilitate shared learning, institutional development, and long-lasting connections between the two nations, while reinforcing the role of culture in uniting societies and shaping future generations.
Fujiwara expressed enthusiasm for this partnership, highlighting its potential to enhance the global museum landscape through the exchange of expertise and innovative dialogue. He noted that this collaboration will allow for joint exhibitions and heritage initiatives that will expose audiences in both countries to the richness of their respective cultural heritages.
According to the MoU, the two institutions will work together on the examination, preservation, and conservation of cultural artifacts, including opportunities for the mutual lending of items. The agreement also includes training and exchange programmes aimed at developing museum professionals and fostering ongoing collaboration.
Additionally, this partnership will facilitate joint exhibitions, educational courses, and cultural workshops in Abu Dhabi, promoting public engagement and cultivating dialogue through culture and education.
This agreement highlights DCT Abu Dhabi's broader vision to enhance international cultural connections and position the emirate as a global center for museum collaboration, research, and best practices. The MoU signifies a new era of cultural relations between Abu Dhabi and Japan, rooted in shared commitments to creativity, education, and mutual understanding.
