Late Monday night, Afghanistan experienced a 4.1 magnitude earthquake, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported. The tremor occurred deep underground, at a depth of 180 km, reducing its surface impact compared to shallower quakes.
This follows a smaller 3.9 magnitude earthquake on September 28, which was only 10 km deep. Shallow earthquakes are generally more hazardous because their seismic waves reach the surface quickly, increasing the risk of stronger ground shaking, structural damage, and danger to people.
Experts have advised residents to remain alert and prepared for possible aftershocks as the region continues to experience seismic activity.
In parallel, India has reiterated its support for Afghanistan through humanitarian aid and development projects. On September 18, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni emphasized India’s commitment to peace, stability, and the welfare of Afghan citizens during a UN Security Council briefing. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian assistance and strengthen local capacity-building initiatives.
As Afghanistan faces repeated tremors, authorities and experts continue to monitor the situation while urging residents to stay safe and prepared.
