Quebec Terror Suspect Released on Bail Following Court Decision

Quebec Terror Suspect Released on Bail Following Court Decision

Post by : Meena Ariff

Simon Angers-Audet, aged 24, is one of three individuals charged in a alleged terrorist scheme in the Quebec City area, and has been granted bail. Released on Friday, he must remain at his family residence and report his whereabouts to authorities.

The Quebec Superior Court's decision overturned a prior ruling denying him bail, with specific details from the hearing remaining under a publication ban.

Angers-Audet, alongside Marc-Aurèle Chabot and Raphaël Lagacé, faces accusations of weapon offenses alongside facilitating acts of terrorism. Authorities allege their involvement in an anti-government initiative aimed at forcefully taking over land in the Quebec City vicinity.

Chabot faces an extra charge for allegedly directing individuals to commit terrorist acts, which could result in a life sentence.

Matthew Forbes, another suspect from Pont-Rouge, Quebec, faces several charges, including illegal possession of firearms and explosives, and has also secured bail under strict conditions.

At the time of their July 8 arrests, Chabot and Forbes were reportedly serving as members of the Canadian Forces at Base Valcartier.

Police investigations indicated that these individuals participated in paramilitary exercises. Court documents suggested that Chabot had previously made threats of violence against government officials and had mentioned a similar confrontation to the Waco incident on a podcast prior to his arrest.

The developments in this case continue to stir worries about extremist activities and the safety of the public in the region.
