Drunken Fight After Cricket Match Turns Fatal in Bengaluru

Drunken Fight After Cricket Match Turns Fatal in Bengaluru

Post by : Meena Ariff

A late-night argument following a local cricket match turned deadly in Bengaluru, claiming the life of a 33-year-old man after a drunken altercation spiraled out of control, police said.

The incident involved Prashanth (33) and Roshan Hegde (37), who got into a heated verbal dispute after participating in a cricket tournament at a playground in Electronics City. According to investigators, the two men had been drinking beer at an open ground behind a mall when a minor disagreement triggered the clash.

What began as an argument over a cigarette lighter quickly escalated into physical violence. Both men allegedly abused and pushed each other, eventually attacking one another with beer bottles. During the scuffle, Hegde reportedly suffered a cut injury on his tongue.

After the fight, Hegde attempted to leave the spot in his Tata Safari SUV. Prashanth chased the vehicle and stood on its front footrest, continuing the argument as the car moved. Police allege that Hegde then accelerated the SUV with the intention to kill him.

Moments later, Hegde deliberately rammed the vehicle into a roadside tree and subsequently into a compound wall. The violent impact caused severe head and chest injuries to Prashanth, who died on the spot.

The entire sequence of events was recorded on the SUV’s dashboard camera, which played a key role in identifying and tracing the accused. Based on the evidence, police registered a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Hegde, an IT professional, was arrested within an hour of the incident. The vehicle used in the crime has been seized, and further investigation is currently underway.
