A tragic event happened in a small village near the city of Avignon in southern France. A young bride, just 27 years old, was shot and killed on her wedding night. Her husband, 25, was seriously hurt along with a 13-year-old child when masked gunmen suddenly opened fire outside their wedding party early Sunday morning.
It happened around 4:30 a.m. when the bride and groom were leaving the village hall. The attackers, who had come by car, started shooting. One of the attackers was killed during the shooting, but others ran away on foot and are still being searched for by the police. A large police team and even a helicopter are helping in the search.
There were 28 people inside the hall when the attack happened. One more woman was lightly injured. Officials believe this attack might be related to a fight between people involved in illegal drugs.
The village where this happened, called Goult, is small with only around 1,000 people. Local people are shocked and heartbroken, as nothing like this has happened there in over 100 years.
Police have started an investigation for murder and attempted murder.
