Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that the Delhi government is working on a new liquor policy that will stop all kinds of corruption. She said the aim is to build a fair and honest system for selling liquor in the city.
A high-level committee, led by Chief Secretary Dharmendra Kumar, is preparing this new excise policy. This committee is studying liquor policies from other states and will submit its proposal by June 30. The goal is to bring a modern, digital, and transparent system that ensures people get good-quality liquor while making sure there is no illegal sale.
The policy will focus on:
The Chief Minister said this time, the policy is being designed very carefully. Lessons have been learned from past mistakes. There will be public awareness campaigns to teach people not to misuse alcohol. Strict rules will also be made to stop people from drinking in public places.
She added that the new rules will focus on keeping a social balance and protecting weaker sections of society. The safety and health of poor and vulnerable people will be a top priority.
Speaking about the old policy made by the earlier government, Rekha Gupta said it did not follow proper legal steps and did not think about the public interest. She claimed that some private companies were given unfair advantages, which led to a big loss of money for the government.
Because of this, some leaders from the previous government, including the former Chief Minister and cabinet ministers, were sent to jail.
This time, the Delhi government promises a liquor policy that is honest, transparent, safe for society, and free from corruption at every level.
