The Anti-Fraud Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation said that fraudsters are creating websites that look identical to the official consumer protection portals. These fake sites appear on search engines and social media platforms, tricking people into believing they are submitting personal information to a legitimate government body.
Once victims enter their details, the scammers contact them posing as officials from the consumer protection department. Using the information provided, the fraudsters gain the trust of the victims and ask them to download a remote control software on their devices. They then instruct the victims to log in to their banking apps while the software is active.
This software gives the scammers real-time access to mobile devices, allowing them to steal banking information and carry out unauthorized transfers or purchases.
The Dubai Police warned the public to only use official consumer protection websites and channels. Residents are advised to avoid downloading suspicious apps, never share banking details with unknown sources, and immediately report any suspicious attempts through the eCrime platform or by calling 901.
Authorities emphasized that reporting such scams quickly helps protect personal data and finances, and prevents further fraudulent activities.
