EGA Unveils Cutting-Edge Aluminium Lab in Minnesota

EGA Unveils Cutting-Edge Aluminium Lab in Minnesota

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) is elevating its operations in the United States with the launch of a cutting-edge metallurgical testing laboratory at the EGA Spectro Alloys recycling facility in Minnesota. This initiative is part of a wider expansion strategy aimed at addressing the increasing demand for premium recycled aluminium.

The new laboratory will conduct thorough metallographic evaluations and mechanical assessments of finished aluminium products to ensure compliance with stringent specifications. Customers will also have the advantage of submitting samples from castings or extrusions, facilitating quick troubleshooting and enhancement of quality.

The expansion at EGA Spectro Alloys introduces an additional 55,000 tonnes of secondary billet production in its initial phase, raising the overall capacity to 165,000 tonnes of recycled aluminium ingots and billets annually. The full operational capacity of the upgraded facility is anticipated to be achieved by early 2026.

The significance of recycled aluminium continues to rise due to its environmental advantages. Producing aluminium from scrap can save up to 95% in electricity compared to primary production and results in considerably lower greenhouse gas emissions. The US market is expected to require 7.6 million tonnes of recycled aluminium each year by 2033, underscoring the strategic significance of EGA's expansion.

This initiative follows EGA's acquisition of an 80% interest in EGA Spectro Alloys in 2024, reaffirming the company's dedication to low-carbon aluminium solutions and ensuring that clients receive dependable, high-quality metal for their production needs.
