Elon Musk has announced that he cancelled his Netflix subscription after animated series creator Hamish Steele faced backlash for controversial remarks about the killing of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Steele, who created Dead End: Paranormal Park, had already been criticised for adding transgender themes in a children’s show, which sparked heated debates among parents and viewers.
The controversy escalated after screenshots went viral online, allegedly showing Steele using profanities and calling Charlie Kirk a “Nazi.” The post was reportedly in response to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s statement on Kirk’s death. Although the screenshots have not been independently verified, they triggered widespread criticism on social media.
Following the uproar, an X user shared proof of cancelling their Netflix account, writing: “If you employ someone who celebrated the murder of Charlie Kirk and pushes pro-trans content on kids, you’ll never get a dime from me.” Elon Musk reshared the post, replying: “Same.”
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO also posted strong criticism of Netflix for allowing children’s content that promotes transgender themes. In one of his replies, Musk referred to Steele as a “groomer,” adding fuel to the growing boycott calls. The cancellation trend quickly gained traction on X, with several users saying they would also unsubscribe.
Charlie Kirk, a close supporter of former U.S. President Donald Trump, was shot during a public event at Utah Valley University on September 10. He suffered a fatal neck injury and later died in the hospital despite emergency surgery. His accused killer, Tyler Robinson, was arrested two days later and charged with aggravated murder. He now faces the death penalty, with his next court hearing scheduled for October 30.
The controversy around Hamish Steele, Netflix, Elon Musk, and transgender content in children’s shows continues to spark intense debate online, with many questioning the streaming giant’s content policies.
