Gau Rakshak Wounded in Hyderabad, Activist in Critical Condition, Suspect Arrested

Gau Rakshak Wounded in Hyderabad, Activist in Critical Condition, Suspect Arrested

Post by : Rameen Ariff

On Wednesday evening, a gau rakshak named Sonu Singh, also known as Prashant, was critically injured in a shooting incident in Ghatkesar, Hyderabad. This prominent cow protection activist, recognized for advocating against illegal cattle transportation, was deceived into meeting under the guise of receiving information related to cow transport. Reports indicate that he was summoned to a designated spot between 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm where one of the attackers opened fire, wounding him severely. The police promptly responded, apprehending the individuals involved in the assault. Prashant was swiftly transported to a local hospital where medical staff are currently working to stabilize his condition.

The shooting has triggered significant outrage, notably from local BJP officials who have visited Prashant in the hospital to monitor his status. N. Ramchander Rao, President of the Telangana BJP, has accused an AIMIM member of being responsible for the attack, revealing that the bullet struck Prashant’s liver and underlining his precarious health. Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, condemned the assault as a “horrendous act,” calling for quick police action against those behind the attack on the gau rakshak. BJP officials have warned of intensified protests should the government fail to implement stringent measures against illegal cow transportation and violence directed at gau rakshaks.

Police confirmed that the gau rakshak was misled into the situation, underscoring the risks encountered by activists combatting illegal cattle transport. The apprehended suspects are now under investigation, as law enforcement scrutinizes whether this shooting was premeditated and if Prashant was specifically targeted because of his outspoken activism. Senior police representatives reassured the public that precautions are being enforced to protect the gau rakshak and others involved in cattle protection efforts.

This incident has reignited conversations surrounding the safeguarding of gau rakshaks and the strict enforcement of laws against illegal cattle trade in Telangana. BJP leaders emphasized that maintaining law and order is a governmental responsibility, cautioning that failures to protect gau rakshaks could stir public dissent. This attack has captured national attention, highlighting the urgent need for firm action against those who threaten activists championing cow protection laws. Investigations continue to reveal the motives behind this attack while ensuring that justice is pursued promptly.

Prashant's shooting in Ghatkesar has raised both political and societal alarms, highlighting the dangers faced by individuals defending cow protection. With the alleged perpetrator in custody and ongoing investigations underway, authorities aim to prevent further incidents. This attack on the gau rakshak reflects wider challenges in activist protection and enforcement of cattle transportation regulations, with BJP leaders urging immediate and decisive action. Public backing for the gau rakshak remains strong, indicating the community's commitment to protecting activists involved in cow preservation efforts.
