Ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton shared his hopes that Ferrari can echo last year's impressive showing. He believes past lessons could aid the team's quest for form amid its ongoing struggles.
The Italian squad is currently dealing with a 23-race winless streak following Carlos Sainz's victory at last year's Mexican GP. Despite joining the team in January, Hamilton is yet to claim a podium this season, ramping up the urgency for a revival.
This weekend, Hamilton will sit out the initial practice session, with endurance racer Antonio Fuoco stepping in for vital Formula One experience. Hamilton recognizes that his absence means he will need to adjust quickly in the remaining sessions to be competitive in the race.
In contrast, teammate Charles Leclerc offered a more tempered view. He indicated that success seems out of reach unless unforeseen events unfold. Leclerc noted that compared to last year, Ferrari seems to have drifted further from the pace needed to contest for a win under standard racing conditions.
Reflecting on last year’s Mexican GP, Leclerc pointed out how well Sainz performed throughout the weekend. He hopes for a similar outcome, yet acknowledges that realistic expectations point to a tough contest ahead.
Currently positioned fifth in the drivers' standings, Leclerc has made six podium finishes this season. Meanwhile, Hamilton aims to secure a strong showing to elevate both his personal ranking and Ferrari’s momentum as the season closes.
Both racers understand that Ferrari faces significant hurdles this weekend. While Hamilton is keen on leveraging past insights, Leclerc emphasizes that typical race conditions severely limit the chances of a win. Only some unforeseen incidents could help the team achieve victory.
Ferrari's mission this weekend centers on maximizing their performance during qualifying and the main event, despite their practice difficulties and overall team challenges. The drivers are focused on optimizing car setup, strategy, and consistency for the best potential outcome.
As the Mexican Grand Prix approaches, Hamilton nurtures hope, while Leclerc maintains a cautious perspective. This weekend is crucial for assessing performance, strategy, and resilience as they aim to break their winless streak and challenge top competitors.
