‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ Box Office: ₹50 Cr Hit

‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ Box Office: ₹50 Cr Hit

Post by : Meena Ariff

Harshvardhan Rane’s latest release, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, has emerged as one of the biggest surprise hits of the Diwali season. Despite facing tough competition from Dinesh Vijan’s big-ticket horror comedy Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the romantic thriller managed to find its audience and deliver solid box office numbers.

The film, which released on Diwali week, opened to a strong ₹9 crore on its first day — matching the debut numbers of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. With positive word-of-mouth and Rane’s growing fan base, the movie sustained well throughout its extended holiday run, crossing the ₹50 crore mark within nine days of release. This makes it Harshvardhan Rane’s highest-grossing film to date, surpassing his breakout romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam (2016).

Clash with Biggie ‘Thamma’

Releasing alongside Thamma — a much-hyped entry in the Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe — Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat faced an uphill battle. Thamma had the advantage of a star-studded cast, a major studio backing, and nearly three times more shows across multiplex chains in its opening weekend.

However, despite these odds, Rane’s film carved out a space for itself with a gripping love story and intense performances that resonated with the youth audience. While Thamma opened stronger due to its brand value, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat saw steadier collections over the following days, benefiting from strong audience retention.

Total (9 Days): ₹52.25 crore net (India)

These numbers are particularly impressive considering its limited screen count compared to Thamma. The steady earnings through weekdays and the minimal drop post-Diwali suggest that the film benefited from strong word-of-mouth and repeat viewership in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

A New Milestone for Harshvardhan Rane

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat marks a significant career milestone for Harshvardhan Rane. Known for his intense portrayals in films like Haseen Dillruba and Taish, Rane has consistently been appreciated for his raw screen presence and emotionally charged performances. However, this is the first time one of his films has crossed the ₹50 crore benchmark in India.

Trade analysts are calling it a “career-defining success”, as it establishes Rane as a credible solo lead who can draw audiences on the strength of content and performance rather than star power alone.

Industry Reactions and Audience Response

The film’s success has been praised across the industry. While Thamma dominated the multiplex circuit, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat found a strong footing in single screens and mid-tier urban centers. Critics have highlighted the film’s moody cinematography, soulful soundtrack, and Rane’s performance as key reasons for its sustained momentum.

On social media, fans have celebrated the film’s emotional depth and praised Rane for delivering a performance that “feels both vulnerable and intense.” The chemistry between Rane and the debutante leading lady, Anchal Mehta, has also been widely appreciated.

With the extended first week expected to touch around ₹55 crore net, the film is likely to end its theatrical run between ₹70–75 crore if it holds well over the second weekend.

The real test begins now — the post-holiday phase often sees sharp drops in attendance. Still, trade experts believe that the film’s modest budget and strong returns already make it one of the few profitable Hindi releases of 2025.

So far, only a handful of Hindi films — including Bad Newwz, Shaitaan 2, Munjya, Fighter, and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat — have achieved “hit” status this year. With two months left, the industry will hope to close the year with at least a couple more success stories.

In a year where most mid-budget films have struggled to survive against franchise blockbusters, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat proves that strong content and emotional storytelling can still win over audiences. Harshvardhan Rane’s steady rise as a bankable lead and the film’s impressive word-of-mouth success make it one of 2025’s most pleasant box office surprises.
