Protests Erupt Following Murder of Hindu Farmer in Sindh, Pakistan

Protests Erupt Following Murder of Hindu Farmer in Sindh, Pakistan

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In a tragic incident earlier this week, a Hindu farmer was fatally shot in Pakistan’s Sindh province, prompting significant protests from human rights and minority organizations in the area.

The victim, identified as Kailash Kolhi, was reportedly shot in the chest by Sarfaraz Nizamani, a local landlord, and died instantly. The motivations behind this act remain unclear.

In the aftermath, various Hindu minority organizations and human rights activists organized widespread demonstrations throughout Sindh. Their primary demands include the swift arrest of the suspect and legal action under murder and terrorism charges. Furthermore, they are calling for comprehensive security measures for the deceased’s family.

The protesters labeled the killing a significant breach of law and order, urging local authorities to implement urgent protective measures for minority groups in the province.
“It is essential to act promptly in Sindh to safeguard lives,” stated a collective from the protest groups.

Shiva Kachhi, leader of the minority rights group Pakistan Darawar Ittehad, condemned the murder, deeming it “a ruthless act of violence” that attacks not only an individual but also the principles of justice and minority rights in Sindh.

This incident occurs shortly after Pakistan publicly criticized India regarding minority rights, with India countering those claims by highlighting Pakistan's documented failures in protecting its own minorities.
