An Indian diplomat posted in Bangladesh was found dead inside the premises of the Indian Assistant High Commission in Chittagong, creating concern among diplomatic and government circles. The deceased official has been identified as Naren Dhar, who was serving as a protocol officer at the mission.
According to local police officials, the body was discovered early in the morning near a bathroom door on the second floor of the old visa centre building inside the diplomatic compound. Authorities said police reached the scene shortly after receiving information about the incident and recovered the body around 9:30 am.
The body was later sent to the mortuary at Chittagong Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Officials stated that the exact cause of death remains unclear at this stage and investigators are waiting for the autopsy report before drawing any conclusions.
Assistant Commissioner of City Police Aminur Rashid confirmed that Naren Dhar was in his late 30s and was employed as a protocol officer at the Indian mission. Preliminary observations reportedly suggested the possibility of a cardiac arrest, though police stressed that the final medical report would determine the actual reason behind the death.
Government sources said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka is in contact with the family members of the deceased official. Reports indicate that Dhar originally belonged to Chandigarh in India. However, no official statement has yet been released by the Indian High Commission regarding the incident.
The sudden death of the diplomat has triggered discussions within diplomatic circles, especially considering the sensitive nature of diplomatic missions and security protocols. Local authorities have started an investigation into the matter and are examining all possible angles related to the case.
Police officials stated that further updates would be shared once the autopsy findings are completed. Until then, the circumstances surrounding the diplomat’s death remain under investigation as officials continue gathering evidence and statements from mission staff members.
