Israeli Forces Launch Major Operation in Tubas West Bank Tensions Rise

Israeli Forces Launch Major Operation in Tubas West Bank Tensions Rise

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Israeli security forces began a major counter-terrorism operation in the northern West Bank city of Tubas on Wednesday. The operation involved military personnel, police, and intelligence units, and was described by Israeli officials as targeting rebel fighters.

According to Tubas Governor Ahmed Al-Asaad, Israeli forces, supported by a helicopter that fired during the operation, surrounded the city. The troops established positions across several neighborhoods, forcing residents out of their homes and using rooftops for strategic advantage. Residents were told not to return to their homes until the operation concludes, which local officials expect to last several days.

The Israeli military confirmed that the operation started early Wednesday morning but provided few details. A military spokesperson declined further comment, promising more information later.

This operation in Tubas follows a similar campaign launched by Israeli forces in the northern West Bank city of Jenin earlier this year. That operation began in January and has since expanded to other Palestinian cities in the north, including Tubas. Israeli forces have maintained a prolonged presence in these areas, conducting raids, arrests, and clearing out refugee camps. The operations have displaced thousands of Palestinians and caused significant damage to homes and infrastructure.

Human rights groups have criticized the Israeli actions, accusing the military of forced expulsions and other violations. Israel denies these allegations.

The ongoing violence in the West Bank has escalated in recent months, with attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinian communities becoming more frequent. Although some government officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have condemned these attacks, few perpetrators have been arrested.

The recent operations come in the wake of heightened tensions following Hamas’s attack on Israel from Gaza in October two years ago. Since then, Israel has tightened restrictions in the West Bank, adding checkpoints and roadblocks, effectively isolating some Palestinian communities.

Hamas has condemned the latest operation in Tubas and urged the international community to intervene to halt the violence.

This situation remains tense and fluid, with the potential for further escalations in the region. Authorities and residents continue to monitor the developments closely.
