King Charles faced a tense moment on Monday when a protester shouted questions about Prince Andrew’s links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The confrontation happened outside Lichfield Cathedral in northwest England as King Charles greeted members of the public during a royal walkabout.
The protester loudly asked, “How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?” — referring to the ongoing controversy surrounding Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein. The monarch, however, chose to ignore the outburst and continued speaking with other well-wishers, maintaining his composure in front of cameras and royal fans.
The incident has reignited global attention on the Prince Andrew and Epstein scandal, which has haunted the British royal family for years. Earlier this month, Prince Andrew announced he would no longer use his title, Duke of York, following renewed public criticism and intense media focus on his past associations.
The controversy deepened after the release of a posthumous memoir by Virginia Giuffre, who had accused Prince Andrew of sexually abusing her when she was a teenager. While Prince Andrew has consistently denied the allegations, he reached an out-of-court settlement with Giuffre in 2022. The payment amount was undisclosed, and the agreement was not seen as an admission of guilt.
In a tragic turn of events, Giuffre was reported to have died by suicide in April 2025, drawing renewed attention to her story and her connection to the ongoing Epstein scandal.
British police have now begun reviewing reports that in 2011, Prince Andrew allegedly asked one of his police officers to dig up information about Giuffre — a claim that has sparked public outrage and calls for transparency.
During the protest outside Lichfield Cathedral, the man was also heard asking, “Have you asked the police to cover up for Andrew? Should MPs be allowed to debate the royals in the House of Commons?” His questions echoed growing public frustration over what many view as royal privilege shielding members of the monarchy from scrutiny.
Despite the controversy, King Charles maintained his calm and continued engaging with royal supporters, avoiding any direct acknowledgment of the protest. Palace officials have so far declined to comment on the confrontation or on the renewed attention surrounding Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein.
The moment underscores the lasting damage caused by Prince Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein, whose crimes continue to cast a shadow over global elites. As King Charles faces increasing pressure to modernize and rebuild public trust in the monarchy, the question of accountability for past royal actions remains one of the most sensitive issues facing Britain’s royal family today.
