Karl-Anthony Towns recorded another double-double, netting 26 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to propel the New York Knicks to a 105-95 victory against the Boston Celtics. Towns showcased his skills with seven points during a remarkable second quarter, where the Knicks overwhelmed Boston with a score of 42-14. This marks New York’s strong 2-0 start, its best since the 2021-22 season.
Jalen Brunson led all players with an impressive 31 points, while teammates Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Miles McBride each scored in double figures, contributing 12, 10, and 10 points, respectively. Anunoby made his entire scoring contribution in the decisive second quarter. Josh Hart, back in action after a brief absence due to back spasms, added 14 rebounds in just 18 minutes, giving the Knicks a significant lift.
The Celtics began with momentum, scoring the first six points and holding a lead for much of the first quarter. Jaylen Brown led the way with 23 points, while Sam Hauser had 18, Derrick White added 15, and Anfernee Simons chipped in 10 off the bench. Boston jumped to a 30-22 lead by the end of the first quarter.
However, the Knicks flipped the script in the second quarter by executing three substantial scoring runs. Anunoby’s quick five points initiated an 11-0 run, briefly allowing Boston to reclaim a lead. New York then went on a breathtaking 17-0 tear that featured contributions from seven players. Tyler Kolek’s layup gave the Knicks a 37-36 edge, and they surged ahead to a 64-44 advantage by halftime after outscoring Boston 42-14 in that quarter.
Continuing their strong showing, the Knicks dominated the third quarter, establishing two separate 24-point leads and concluding the period at 82-65. Towns, Brunson, and other starters kept the scoreboard ticking, effectively stifling any potential Celtics comeback.
While Boston managed a 30-23 scoring advantage in the final quarter, it wasn’t enough to close the gap. The closest they came was within nine points, but New York maintained control to clinch a 105-95 victory.
The Knicks’ balanced offense and that explosive second quarter underscored the critical role of teamwork and consistency. With Towns at the forefront, supported by Brunson and other key players, New York demonstrated its depth and capability. Though the Celtics began promisingly, they could not overcome the Knicks' decisive intervals, marking a strong start for New York this season.
