Malaysia is facing a significant influenza outbreak as nearly 6,000 students across the country have tested positive for the virus. In response, some schools have been temporarily closed to ensure the safety of children and staff, according to officials from the Ministry of Education.
Director General Mohd Azam Ahmad stated that the country has extensive experience in handling infectious diseases due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He advised schools to follow safety protocols, including wearing face masks and minimizing large gatherings or group activities among students.
The Ministry of Health reported a total of 97 influenza clusters last week, a sharp increase from just 14 clusters the previous week. Most of these clusters were identified in schools and kindergartens, highlighting the rapid spread of influenza among young children.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging parents and schools to adhere to health guidelines to contain the outbreak.
This surge underscores the importance of early prevention measures, vaccination, and public health awareness to limit the impact of influenza in educational institutions.
