Mexico Floods Kill 44 After Tropical Storm Priscilla and Raymond

Mexico Floods Kill 44 After Tropical Storm Priscilla and Raymond

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Mexico is reeling after days of heavy rains and severe flooding caused by tropical storms Priscilla and Raymond, which have claimed at least 44 lives, the government confirmed on Sunday.

The storms triggered landslides and flash floods across five Mexican states, with Veracruz reporting 18 deaths, Hidalgo 16, Puebla 9, and Queretaro 1. Several towns and communities have been severely affected, leaving residents stranded and properties damaged.

President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration activated an emergency response plan to support 139 affected towns. “We continue with attention to the emergency in Veracruz, Hidalgo, Puebla, Queretaro, and San Luis Potosí, in coordination with state governors and federal authorities. The National Emergency Committee is in permanent session,” she stated on social media platform X.

Images shared by the Mexican military show soldiers evacuating residents using life rafts, while streets and homes are submerged in waist-high floodwaters and mud. Rescue workers continue to move through flooded areas, providing aid to stranded families.

Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas to stay alert and follow evacuation orders as emergency services continue operations. The government is coordinating with local and federal agencies to provide shelter, food, and medical aid to those impacted by the storms.

The Mexican government also warned that heavy rains may continue, raising concerns about further flooding and landslides in vulnerable regions. Citizens have been advised to remain cautious and monitor weather updates closely.
