Miss Universe 2025 Walkout Erupts After Director’s Remarks Toward Miss Mexico

Miss Universe 2025 Walkout Erupts After Director’s Remarks Toward Miss Mexico

Post by : Saif Rahman

The Miss Universe 2025 competition in Thailand has been overshadowed by a contentious episode that shifted attention from celebration to criticism and debate.

The incident unfolded during a sash ceremony when Nawat Itsaragrisil, the director of Miss Universe Thailand and host of the segment, addressed Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, in a confrontational way. A video clip circulating online captures Nawat asking her to stand and then using demeaning language; some viewers say he called her a “dumbhead.” When Fátima tried to clarify her side, he interrupted her, saying, “I didn’t give you an opportunity to talk.”

The exchange visibly unsettled other contestants. After Nawat appeared to summon security as though to remove Fátima, several contestants reacted with audible shock. Fátima left the room and was followed by most of the other participants, a spontaneous show of solidarity that quickly became the defining image of protest.

Outside the venue, Fátima told reporters she respects Thailand and its people but could not accept being publicly demeaned. Her composed yet firm remarks drew applause at the scene and praise across social platforms for defending her dignity.

As the walkout video spread online, calls mounted for Nawat to be relieved of his duties. Fans, former contestants and pageant observers demanded accountability and a more professional standard from organisers.

Nawat later issued a public apology, appearing emotional and saying he had not anticipated the controversy would grow so large. Despite that, many commentators questioned the sincerity of his statement and the timing of his remorse.

Some social media reactions included:
“Are the tears in the room with us?”
“These are the driest tears I have ever seen.”

Such responses indicated broad scepticism about whether the apology was heartfelt or performed under pressure.

The Miss Universe Organization has acknowledged the incident and is working to manage the fallout. Fátima has since rejoined scheduled activities, and numerous contestants continue to show open support for her.

Observers say the episode has ignited a wider debate about how contestants are treated behind the scenes. Pageants often foreground empowerment and confidence, but this episode has underscored the importance of respect and professional conduct.

Many commentators view the episode as potentially pivotal: contestants are not merely participants in a spectacle but individuals with voices and rights. The solidarity Fátima received highlights a growing insistence on dignity within the pageant circuit.

With the Miss Universe 2025 finale still to come, the competition’s tone has already been altered. International attention is now focused as much on fairness and respect as on the final contest itself.
