Noida police have arrested a builder after 27-year-old Yuvraj Mehta drowned when his SUV accidentally fell into a water-filled construction pit.
The arrested man, Abhay Kumar, is one of the owners of the company managing the project. Police are still searching for the second owner, Manish Kumar.
The accident occurred in Sector 150, Noida, at a 20-foot-deep pit that was originally dug in 2021 for the basement of a mall. After construction work stopped, the pit remained filled with water from 2022, making it extremely hazardous.
Following the tragedy, Mehta’s father filed a formal complaint, leading the police to register a case against the construction companies involved. One of the companies clarified that they had sold the project in 2019-2020 to the current developers with proper local authority approval.
Authorities are investigating how safety rules were ignored and why such a deep pit was left exposed and dangerous for years. Meanwhile, police continue their search for the other owner involved in the project.
Officials have also issued warnings to all builders and developers, urging them to ensure strict safety measures at construction sites to prevent similar accidents in the future.
