Kim Jong Un Celebrates New Year in Pyongyang with His Daughter

Post by : Saif Rahman

North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un marked the New Year in Pyongyang for 2026, according to state media. The festivities featured fireworks, patriotic tunes, traditional dance, and taekwondo displays, providing a unique glimpse into public celebrations in the nation.

Accompanied by his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, who has made several appearances at prominent events, the duo was seen together in photographs from the Korean Central News Agency. They were shown holding hands, greeting children, and embracing them, with an intention to project a compassionate and unified leadership image.

In his New Year address, Kim lauded the North Korean populace for their dedication in 2025, asserting that the year witnessed significant accomplishments and transformations. He urged for national solidarity as the country gears up for a crucial political conference anticipated in early 2026. This event, the 9th Congress of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, is set to define North Korea's trajectory for the next five years.

The forthcoming party congress is deemed one of the nation's paramount political occasions. It aims to establish objectives across various sectors including economic strategy, defense, and arms development. Historical congresses have been platforms for announcing long-term initiatives and reinforcing the leadership's outlook for the future.

Additionally, Kim sent greetings to North Korean soldiers supporting Russian forces in the Ukraine conflict. He acknowledged these troops as a pivotal strength of the nation and expressed eagerness to welcome them home, reinforcing the bond between Pyongyang and Moscow.

State media also indicated that Kim received New Year greetings from multiple global leaders, including the Chinese president and his spouse. However, no specific names or further details were disclosed, hinting at North Korea's ongoing diplomatic engagement with friendly nations.

The rising visibility of Kim Ju Ae has drawn attention from analysts, with some suggesting her appearances could hint at an impending leadership role, although official statements regarding succession have yet to be made.

As 2026 commences, the New Year celebration in Pyongyang conveyed a robust message of confidence and continuity. Through speeches, performances, and thoughtfully curated images, North Korea’s leadership reaffirmed national unity and illustrated their priorities for the approaching year.
